From Old Galician-Portuguese lampada, borrowed from Late Latin lampada, from Latin lampas, from Ancient Greek λαμπάς (lampás, lamp or flambeau), from Ancient Greek λάμπω (lámpō, to shine). Compare the inherited Old Portuguese form lampaa.
