Etymology

Borrowed from Spanish kimona, from kimono +‎ -a, from Japanese 着物(きもの) (kimono). Doublet of kimono, a later borrowing. Potet (2016) remarks that the last vowel in 着物(きもの) (kimono) was mistaken for the masculine -o ending in Spanish, so the Spanish feminine -a ending was appended to this word.
