[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish كفنجی (kefenci, “maker or seller of shrouds; graverobber”), equivalent to kefen (“shroud”) + -cı.

- maker or seller of shrouds, winding cloths, or other similar dresses and apparel for the dead
- (figuratively) graverobber, one who robs graves or tombs in order to sell the contents for profit
