[edit]From Ottoman Turkish قراردی (ḳarardı, ḳarartı, “any dark object seen, an obscuration”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish قرارمق (ḳararmaḳ, “to become or appear black or dark, to become dusky, without light, to become overclouded”), from Ottoman Turkish قره (ḳara, “black, dark”), from Proto-Turkic *kara (“black, dark”),[2] morphologically kara + -r- + -tı.
