Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish قانمق (kanmak, to be satiated with drink, to become convinced), from Proto-Turkic *kān- (to be satisfied). Cognate with Old Uyghur qʾnmʾq (qanmaq, to be satisfied), Karakhanid قانْماقْ (qānmāq, to be satisfied), Turkmen gānmak (to satisfy one's thirst) and Mongolian ханах (xanax, to be satisfied); a probable Turkic borrowing.
