[edit]Compound of ilmu (“science”) + pasti (“sure, certain”), calque of Dutch wiskunde (“mathematics”, literally “art of what is known”) and Dutch exacte wetenschap.
- Sense of exact science is reinforced by semantic loan from English exact science.
- Sense of mathematics was displaced by matematika.
