Inherited from Prakrit 𑀭𑀺𑀘𑁆𑀙 (riccha), from Sanskrit ऋक्ष (ṛkṣa), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hŕ̥ćšas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ŕ̥tḱos. Possibly influenced by Iranian; compare Northern Kurdish hirç. Cognate with Gujarati રીંછ (rī̃ch).
