From Middle High German herūz, herūʒ, harūz, from Old High German heraūz (out of here; forth), equivalent to her- (to or over here; hither, prefix implying movement) +‎ aus (out). Compare German hinaus (out from here) and German daraus (out from there) and archaic English hereout (out of here).
