[edit]From Ancient Greek ἡπατοσκοπία (hēpatoskopía), from ἥπατος (hḗpatos), genitive form of ἧπαρ (hêpar, “liver”) + σκοπέω (skopéō, “to see”). Equivalent to hepato- + -scopy.
