[edit]Akin to Greek γούβα (goúva), γκούβα (gkoúva, “small pit; depression”), Aromanian guvã (“hole, cavity”), regional Romanian guvă (“nostril”). Other languages may have borrowed the word from Albanian where, given the variant guvër, it is most likely a variant of gavër (“hollow in a tree trunk; hole, cavity”).
