From Proto-Turkic *kǖt- (to wait; to attend; to respect; to graze).[1]

Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (kǖt-), [script needed] (küd-, to wait, watch, graze),[2] Kazakh күту (kütu, to wait), Kyrgyz күтүү (kütüü, to wait; to tend to (cattle)), Azerbaijani güdmək (to graze), Bashkir көтөү (kötöw, to wait, graze), Yakut күүт (küüt, to wait) / көһүт (köhüt, to wait), etc.
