[edit]From Old Norse fnœsa (“to sneeze, snort”), from Proto-Germanic *fnōsijaną (“to snort, puff”), from Proto-Indo-European *pnew- (“to breathe, pant”). Related to Old Norse fnasa, Old English fnēosan (“to sneeze”). More at English sneeze.
