[edit]Derived from Middle Low German vīentlik, from vient + -lik, equivalent to fiende + -lig. Cognate with Norwegian Bokmål fiendtlig, Norwegian Nynorsk fiendtleg, fiendsleg, Danish fjendtlig, German feindlich, Dutch vijandelijk and English fiendly.
