Etymology

Derived from Middle Low German vīentlik, from vient + -lik, merged with Norwegian Bokmål fiende and -lig, keeping the sound -t- in the middle. Cognate with Swedish fientlig, Norwegian Nynorsk fiendtleg and Danish fjendtlig.
