[edit]Borrowed from Esperanto fervojo. Equivalent to fero (“iron”) + voyo (“road, way”), calque of Italian ferrovia, German Eisenbahn, Russian желе́зная доро́га (želéznaja doróga), Spanish ferrocarril and French chemin de fer.
