From Ottoman Turkish فلج (felc, felç), from Persian فلج (falaj), seemingly from verbal noun فَلَج (falaj) of passive-only base stem deverbal Arabic فُلِجَ (fulija) from فَالَج (fālaj), borrowed from Aramaic פָּלְגָּא / ܦܴܠܓܳܐ (pālgā), from Ancient Greek πλῆξις (plêxis), πληγή (plēgḗ).
