Etymology

[edit]

Unknown. One possibility may be a Vulgar Latin root *dismatticāre, from Latin mattus (drunk). Another etymology may be from an earlier form *desmântici, from a Latin root *de-exmenticāre, with change of conjugation (compare Italian dimenticare). Compare the verb dezmeți, and also dezmetic, possibly related to bezmetic.

[edit]
