[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown. Possibly from a Vulgar Latin *devocāre, from *devacuāre, from Latin vacuus,[1] or from the form dezvoca, from a root *disvocāre. Compare Aromanian dizvoc, dizvucari, see also Romanian desfăca. Cf. Logudorese Sardinian bogare (“to take out, extract”), Campidanese debogada, Old French voiier (“to empty; take/bring out; clear, rid”), Gascon Occitan desboucà (“spill, scatter, pour”).[2] Alternatively, the word may simply be an expressive creation related to dăbăla, dehula.
