[edit]Etymology
[edit]The phonetic elements in the Nôm characters used to write this word (杜 (MC duX), 徒 (MC du)) as well as the modern North Central form thỗ/thổ point to earlier form with *-d-. This word is unrelated to 誘 (MC yuwX) (SV: dụ), although the character appeared in latter Nôm texts as sound changes in the mainstream dialects caused the two to become similar enough for 誘 to be used as a phonetic element.
