Etymology

The smooth helmeted iguana (Corytophanes cristatus) is a corytophanid.

From translingual Corytophanidae +‎ -id. Corytophanidae is derived from Ancient Greek κόρῠθος (kórŭthos, “helmet”) + φᾰνερός (phănerós, “visible”) + -idae, referring to the lizard’s prominent helmet-like head crest.[1]
