[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish جان هولیله (can havliyle),[1] from جان (cān, can) and هول (havl, havil),[2][3] equivalent to can (“life, soul, heart”) + havl (“fright, terror”) + -i (possessive suffix) + -yle, literally “with terror for (one's) life/soul”, or can + havli + ile.
