Inherited from Ottoman Turkish جان باش ایله (can baş ile),[1] from جان (cān, can) and باش (baş),[2][3] equivalent to can (life, soul, heart) +‎ -la (instrumental suffix) +‎ baş (head) +‎ -la, literally with soul/life and head, or can + ile + baş + ile.
