[edit]From cụ (“great grandparent, elderly person”) + Khốt, the latter clipped from Khốt-ta-bít, which in turn transliterates Russian Хоттабыч (Xottabyč), the eponymous character from Lazar Lagin's novel Старик Хоттабыч (Starik Xottabyč) "Old Man Khottabych" [1938].
