North Frisian

Etymology

[edit]

From Middle Low German brâden, from Proto-Germanic *brēdaną. Both the weak conjugation throughout North Frisian and the phonetic development attest to the non-native origin. The expected form would be Föhr-Amrum *briad (or *breed).
