block code (plural block codes)

  1. (coding theory) A type of error-correcting code that encodes messages divided into fixed-sized blocks to codewords with a specific length.

      Owing to their structure, linear codes are by far the predominant block codes in practical usage, and virtually all codes that will be considered in subsequent chapters are linear.
