  • IPA(key): /bəˈʃeːmt/ (overall more common; particularly northern and eastern regions)
  • Audio:(file)
  • Hyphenation: be‧schämt

Participle

[edit]

beschämt

  1. past participle of beschämen

Adjective

[edit]

beschämt (strong nominative masculine singular beschämter, comparative beschämter, superlative am beschämtesten)

  1. ashamed

Usage notes

[edit]

It is more common to use the verb "(sich) schämen" (to shame oneself) instead of this adjective. (Ich schäme mich. ("I shame myself.") instead of "Ich bin beschämt." ("I am ashamed."). The latter may sound outdated or posh.
