[edit]Learned borrowing from Karakhanid [script needed] (basïnč, “pressure; tyranny”),[1] from Proto-Turkic *bas- (“to press”),[2] equivalent to bas- (“to press, to put one's foot on”) + -ın + -ç.
Compare also Turkmen basyş, Southern Altai базыш (bazïš), Uyghur بېسىم (bësim), Uzbek bosim, Kyrgyz басым (basım), Bashkir баҫым (baśım).
