[edit]From Proto-Slavic *bosъ (“barefoot”) (compare Upper Sorbian bosy, Polish bosy, Czech bosý, Russian босой (bosoj), Old Church Slavonic босъ (bosŭ)), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *basas (compare Lithuanian bãsas, Latvian bass), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰosós (“naked”) (compare Old Armenian բոկ (bok, “barefoot”), Ancient Greek ψιλός (psilós, “bare”), Old English bær (“bare”)).
