[edit]From Ottoman Turkish آونمق (avunmaḳ, “to be occupied with something in the mind, and so insensible to what transpires”),[1] from Proto-Turkic *abïn- (“to enjoy oneself, to be happy, to comfort”),[2] possibly from Old Turkic *ab- (“to crowd, to come together”),[3][4] morphologically avun- + -tu.
