[edit]Internationalism chiefly via German Anorak.[1] Ultimately from Greenlandic annoraaq,[2] possibly related to Greenlandic anori (“wind”).[3] The Greenlandic term is from Greenlandic *atnuʀaaq (“clothing”), cognate with Inuktitut ᐊᓐᓄᕌᑦ (annoraat, “clothing”). First attested in 1941.
