Adjective
[edit]afgānisks (definite afgāniskais, comparative afgāniskāks, superlative visafgāniskākais, adverb afgāniski)
- Afghan (relating to the Afghan (Pashto) people, their language and culture; relating to the peoples of Afghanistan, their languages and cultures)
- es uzskatu, ka mums visiem kopā jāstrādā ar šīm afgāņu grupām, kas grib, lai Afganistāna būtu afgāniska ― I believe that we all must work together with those Afghan groups who want Afghanistan to be Afghan
Usage notes
[edit]English “Afghan” as an attributive adjective usually corresponds in Latvian to afgāņu, the genitive plural form of afgānis (or, more exactly, puštunu, the genitive plural form of puštuns “Pashtun,” “ethnic Afghan,” since, like English Afghan itself, afgānis can in principle refer to a member of any ethnic group from Afghanistan). The adjective afgānisks is commonly used as a predicate (“this is Afghan”), or in its adverbial form afgāniski.
