[edit]Etymology
[edit]ad- + Proto-Celtic *weideti, from Proto-Indo-European *weyd- (“to see”). The unlenited final /d/ of the third-person singular originated in the prototonic form *·andewēðeθ, where a regular rule of syncope produced *·andewēðθ, which underwent delenition to *·andewēdd; the /d/ then spread to the deuterotonic form.[1]
This verb uses the prefix com- to mark perfective forms. The perfect ad·cuaid is from ad- + com- + ·fíad.
