[edit]Borrowed from French abricot, from Catalan abrecoc, ultimately from Arabic اَلْبَرْقُوق (al-barqūq, “plums”), from Byzantine Greek βερικοκκία (berikokkía), from Ancient Greek πραικόκιον (praikókion), from Late Latin (malum) praecoquum, from earlier Latin (persicum) praecox (literally “over-ripe peach”). Doublet of precoce.
