[edit]Borrowed from Spanish abracete (“embraced; hugged”), or from corruption of Spanish de bracete (“arm-in-arm”). The /s/ may possibly have been irregularly palatalized following front vowel /e/ (c.f. giyera).
Alternatively, possibly from Spanish abra siete (“open seven”) according to the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (Commission on the Filipino Language).
