This link Burmese/Myanmar script and pronunciation, scroll down to "Vowels and vowel diacritics" shows Burmese diacritics in a clearer way. --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 06:37, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

That's doable with images; with Unicode characters, not so much. If someone wants to create such images, all the better. —Angr 11:08, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Is it possible to present vowels this way: [1] (they are Unicode) but matching our standards and listing ALL diacritics? --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 12:01, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

The system called "Okell" on the main page is a phonetic transcription system that he uses in his 1969 Reference Grammar. But two years later he published the Guide to the Romanization of Burmese where he suggests different romanizations for different purposes: a standard transliteration based on the orthography for literary applications, a phonetic transcription for linguistic applications, and a conventional transcription for casual applications. Since our entries already include an IPA transcription, we don't really need a phonetic romanization, but I would like to have an orthography-based transliteration that a Lua module can generate automatically, the way romanizations for Russian and several other languages are already automatically generated. Therefore I propose adopting his recommended standard transliteration in place of the phonetically based BGN-PCGN system we are currently using. His standard transliteration is very similar to the ALA-LC system, but has a few differences.

Okell doesn't mention the abbreviations, but we can follow the ALA-LC's lead:

If we can get a Lua module to implement this system automatically, we can get a bot to remove all the current Burmese transliterations used in translations tables, etymologies, and the like, and reduce the number of romanizations we show on Burmese entries from four to one. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 20:34, 27 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
