Yoruba is a Niger-Congo language widely spoken in West Africa. This page details standard practice to be followed on all Yoruba entries.
Spellings and diacritics
[edit]The underdot vowels, ẹ and ọ, should be used in page titles, but the tones should be marked in the headword line. High tones are marked with the acute accent (´), low tones with the grave accent (`), and mid tones are unmarked except in cases of a tone-bearing nasal that may be ambiguous, in which case a macron (¯) is used. For elongated nasal vowels, the standard form with a dash should be the lemmatized one, with the alternative forms linking to it. For example, aárùn-ún should be the lemmatized form while aárùnún & aárùn should link to it. The consonant ṣ should also be used in page titles.
The spelling used in Standard Yoruba should be where an entry is lemmatized, if possible, with dialectal forms linking to that spelling.
