Etymology
[edit]From Old Norse Víkingsstaðir m pl, from the male given name Víkingr + staðr (“place, stead”). For the Bindal farm, this is attested in the form Vikingstadom m pl (dative), and the farm in Nærøysund is most likely of the same origin. Doublet of Vikingstad, a farm in Torvastad on the island of Karmøy.
