Cognate with Ancient Greek ἔαρ (éar), Old Norse vár, Lithuanian vasara, Sanskrit वसर् (vasar, morning) and वसन्त (vasantá, spring), Persian بهار (bahâr, spring), Old Armenian գարուն (garun).
