[edit]Welcome :)
I must ask, what is your rationale behind adding romaji entries instead of entries spelled using kanji, kana, etc.? —suzukaze (t・c) 05:54, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
- Many romaji entries are missing. --YellowCakeUranium (talk) 05:57, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
- I suppose that's true, but the romaji entries are largely secondary to kana/kanji entries. If you type the romaji into the search box, the kana/kanji entry is likely to appear. (My point is that it may be more useful to focus on creating those entries instead of romaji entries.) —suzukaze (t・c) 06:30, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
- We don't create romaji entries using spellings like ou and uu, but instead use the forms with a macron (ō, ū). Please see WT:AJA for more. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 02:54, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
- Should all romaji entries with "ou" and "uu" use "ō" and "ū" instead? Should not "hyou" redirect to "hyō"? --YellowCakeUranium (talk) 02:58, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, please use ō, ū, ī, and tch (instead of cch). Currently, we only use a single system of romanisation and forms in other romanisations should not be created. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 03:02, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
- Those pages should be redirected to the URL with the text characters that are not on the English keyboard. How are people going to find out that aichou is equal to aichō only going by the string "aichou"? The Japanese romanization form of "ou" and "uu" instead of "ō" and "ū" is wide-spread throughout the Internet (examples:[1][2]) and people who don't know much about Japanese will miss out on the meaning of their textual string without these redirects. (The more anal we are about this the less motivated I am to work on adding Japanese romanization pages.) --YellowCakeUranium (talk) 04:18, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

- There was an informal discussion about adding this type of romaji a few months back at Wiktionary:Beer_parlour/2017/March#Alternative_romanizations_for_Japanese. (I still think they're worth adding, but at the moment, not yet...) —suzukaze (t・c) 04:29, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
Welcome #2
[edit]Here is the robot welcome with some possibly useful stuff.
Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
