Welcome to Wiktionary!
[edit]Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
About Nauruan Letters
[edit]Hello, as stated before. How much do you know about the Nauruan language? Are you able to type letters that have tildes on them like Omniglot says? You could use the special characters soft keyboard when editing to access the letters ã, õ, and ũ. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 03:14, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi! I do not speak Nauruan at all, however I am using resources such as the Nauruan Wiktionary (and, to a lesser degree, the Nauruan Wikipedia) to find Nauruan words to add. Thanks for your suggestion about the soft keyboard. If I need to type these characters, then I'll use the soft keyboard. Orthogonal (talk) 03:22, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- Don't forget the letter eñ for ña (instead of just a, but you could repurpose a for a Nauruan letter entry). --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 03:27, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- There was a discussion on this here, and it seems that the word is actually spelt "a", instead of "nga" (ña wasn't mentioned, however). Orthogonal (talk) 03:36, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Orthogonal. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Orthogonal~enwiktionary that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
