Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! 98.170.164.88 23:50, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sourcing

[edit]

Where did you get Ligurian egemonia from? It's plausible, but I'm just curious. It exactly matches the spelling in standard Italian, which makes it difficult to find Ligurian results on Google.

Btw, please don't add {{was fwotd}} to new entries. 98.170.164.88 23:50, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Acknowledged about the {{was fwotd}} issue.
I took the Ligurian word "egemonia" from a Ligurian Wikipedia article:

Per Wiktionary:Criteria for inclusion § Attestation, we don't want to rely solely on Wikipedia for sourcing, especially since Wikipedias in small languages tend to innovate and make up words that can't be attested elsewhere. You can of course use lij.wikipedia as a starting point, but please make sure words you add are used in at least one Ligurian-language source other than Wikipedia. (There are several books in Ligurian on Google Books, as well as dictionaries of the language, etc., that can serve to verify a given spelling.) 98.170.164.88 00:03, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Roger that. Thanks. Nacho2048 (talk) 00:05, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
This maybe is not the appropiate place for my questions, but I know of no other space, and would amply thank you if you could guide me on certain subjects.
Back in 2010, under a different account now lost to me, I used to collaborate a great deal to English Wiktionary in regard to the Georgian language.
Now, I have mostly shifted the main focus of my interest to the Ligurian language, and my aim is to help as much as I can in its difussion and revitalization, as well as making it a visible and relevant language for the general population, for whom it's virtually unknown.
Having said that, could you please explain me what the "was fwotd" resource is rightfully intended for?
Thanks. Nacho2048 (talk) 00:51, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
