scociorî

[edit]

It makes no sense to mark the etymology as unknown, and then at the same time provide an etymology. It should be one or the other. In any case, the etymology was marked as unknown for a reason, so I'm not sure the one you provided was actually correct. You should probably discuss it on WT:ES first before adding it. —Rua (mew) 15:07, 6 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

I marked the etymology of this word as uncertain because I initially thought so. But meanwhile I discovered an etymology for this word from a very credible source ("Dicționar Explicativ al Limbii Române", Arc, Gunivas, 2007), and therefore deleted "uncertain" and wrote "Derived from scoate ("to pull out")" instead. Ok, but then you should have removed the {{unknown}} template and put the new etymology in its place, instead of marking it as unknown and then writing the known etymology, which made no sense. —Rua (mew) 15:43, 6 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
I think I forgot to remove that template, so you may be right! I'm a newcomer, so I need some time to get used with all these. Thanks a lot! ManFromSuceava (talk) 15:56, 6 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
It's fine, the entry is all correct now I think. My advice is to pay attention to the way entries are written in wikicode, not just how they look on the surface. Wiktionary tends to be rather particular about the code, such as how to make links to other pages. If you take an existing entry, then edit it and copy the code, and then use that code as a base for a new entry, it will probably come out ok. If you're in doubt, feel free to ask about things at WT:ID! —Rua (mew) 16:40, 6 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Etymology of scociorî

Unless you can provide sources, use proper templates and show us exactly how scoate has evolved into this, please keep it away. --Robbie SWE (talk) 19:30, 6 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Welcome message

Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! -- dictātor·mundī 11:09, 9 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Tundra Nenets

[edit]

Please try to take the time to create actual, good-quality entries, and not to copy-paste usage examples from other sources (which is potentially copyright infringement). харвась: this is almost useless as an entry. Thadh (talk) 19:28, 29 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Can you please explain to me what is wrong? As you can see, the Tundra Nenets entries created by me are supported by references. DopamineHunter (talk) 22:19, 29 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
You ignore pretty much anything that should be added to an entry; You have indeed added a source (although, as you might have seen in some other entries you've edited, we have a template for it, that should be used instead of bare text, and a page number would do wonders.
Tundra Nenets verbs are always either perfective or imperfective, and you should add which one it is in the headword template (see, for instance, пилюць). We also have a pronunciation template, and while it needs the editor to know where the long and short vowels are in the word, you can and should either look this up in a Tundra Nenets dictionary (both of Tereschkova's dictionaries usually give this), or leave a request for pronunciation behind, so someone else, for instance me, could add it later on. Vowel length should furthermore also be marked in the headword, something I see you don't do either.
Finally, as I've said above, please do not copy-paste usage examples from elsewhere - it can be a problem on so many levels that it's just dangerous: it could be a copyright violation, it could contain errors; if you're using a translation service to translate the original Russian translation into English there can be errors in that, as well... Not to mention, again, that before the eighties if I remember correctly, Tundra Nenets used a completely different orthography, for instance using нг for ӈ and ’ for both ’ and ˮ.
Overall, considering how fast you are moving without seemingly stopping and thinking what you're adding and why, I think it's best you take a week off of editing and take it easy after that. Happy holidays and hope to see some more Nenets work in the future! Thadh (talk) 23:09, 29 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
And also, don't make those same very low-quality entries in Mari. Stríðsdrengur (talk) 02:08, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
