[edit]Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Transliteration modules
[edit]Hello and welcome. Why are you making lots of changes to transliteration modules? Particularly changes that have no practical effect in many cases? Theknightwho (talk) 19:04, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
The Assyrian Aramaic Bible
[edit]Say, if I may beg your pardon, is this version a full "Bible"? I was under the impression that it is only a "New testament". Thank you. 144.121.24.154 21:55, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- New Testament (translated from the original Koine Greek) and Psalms, here's an online copy: https://www.bible.com/bible/1080/MAT.1.AII. More info about it here: https://www.aramaicbible.org/assyrian.html ColumbaBush (talk) 22:14, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- the same group which sponsored the translation of the new testament and psalms is actively working on the old testament https://www.auaf.us/blog/aramaic-bible-translation-pt-i
- im not too familiar with the peshitta bible and to what extent it's available digitally vs paperback in the 3 primary languages that use the syriac alphabet
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suret_language
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turoyo_language
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syriac_language (not spoken day-to-day by assyrians, it's a liturgical language, kinda like how latin is used in latin mass)
- ColumbaBush (talk) 03:20, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. There is no translation of the Pentateuch in NENA, then? Perhaps the Peshitta (ܦܫܺܝܛܬܳܐ) might be the closest one can get?
Unauthorized bot
[edit]@Fenakhay hi there - hopefully you can consider unblocking me per my explanation below
ColumbaBush (block log • active blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • abuse filter log • user creation log • change block settings • unblock)
Request reason:
the reason for my edits were this Category_talk:Assyrian_Neo-Aramaic_inflection-table_templates#c-ColumbaBush-20240816105400-Slash_delimited_naming_convention_for_templates
now that i know the rules, i won't run the bot anymore on this account
considering this wasnt me intentionally trying to break the rules would you be able to remove the block so i can make the request on the discussion page of WT:BOT? ColumbaBush (talk) 18:47, 16 August 2024 (UTC)- Hi @Chuck Entz - I hope you're well
- I think our paths may have crossed before, so sorry to pull you into this situation
- I've been a good faith editor to the aii wiktionary and would like to continue to contribute over the coming days/weeks
- My use of the bot was exclusively to rename templates and I had verified the bulk renaming prior to the bot running to ensure there was no unintentional breakage. That said, I didn't realize this was a violation of the rules - going forward I wouldn't use this account to run pywikibot but rather I would like to create a separate account for the bot and work towards building the trust needed to successfully gain approval at Wiktionary:Votes.
- Unless the block is lifted I would have a wait a month before I can continue to work towards these two bullets. Given the full picture of the situation, would you be able to consider unblocking me?
- Thanks for hearing me out ColumbaBush (talk) 00:13, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Erutuon @Benwing2 - sorry to drag you guys into this... but is there any way you can review my situation or recommend how i can best appeal it?
- Thanks so much ColumbaBush (talk) 19:22, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I contacted Fenakhay and was waiting to hear from them by they seem busy so I went ahead and unblocked you. Please do create a bot vote. Benwing2 (talk) 19:00, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks so much, I will go ahead and do that ColumbaBush (talk) 20:24, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
Your bot edits
[edit]Please mark your bot edits as bot edits. You are flooding everyone’s watchlist. — Fenakhay (حيطي · مساهماتي) 21:15, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- thanks for the heads up
- my understanding is once im part of the bot user group then all edits are marked as bot edits - i think i just got added to that so now my subsequent edits should be marked as bot edits
- i would like to verify this with a edit from my bot account before proceeding with my bulk edits - how are you able to tell by looking at an individual edit if it's a bot edit or not? ColumbaBush (talk) 22:32, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- hi Fenakhay - im confused, you just "thanked" me for my reply - are you able to clarify for me if my most recent edit from the bot account https://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=%DC%A9%DC%92%DC%98%DC%AA%DC%90&diff=prev&oldid=81501668 account was a bot edit?
- (im asking bc i dont know how to determine that from the UI) ColumbaBush (talk) 23:33, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Benwing2 sorry to bother you again, but if you're able to clarify this, it would be super appreciated :) ColumbaBush (talk) 00:31, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, it was counted as a minor bot edit, unlike the others. You can filter edits on your watchlist. You shouldn't have started running your bot before being assigned the rights. — Fenakhay (حيطي · مساهماتي) 00:35, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- sounds good, thanks for the confirmation ColumbaBush (talk) 00:43, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Also, please include a reason in the deletion template (e.g. "misspelling of [[x]]") and don't blank the page. Thanks! Ultimateria (talk) 01:57, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
