[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 04:39, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
Four hyphens between languages
[edit]Place four hyphens between entries of different languages just like I did to one of your entries. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 02:12, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
- For example, have a look at नयन, where I placed the Marathi word before the Sanskrit word and placed the four hyphens between them. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 02:16, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
Babel
[edit]Hi there. It would be useful if you could add a Wiktionary:Babel box to your User page, just so other editors know what languages you're comfortable in. Thanks. Ƿidsiþ 19:38, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
template tip
[edit]Hey, I don't know if you learned from past mistakes already or not but just note that when using {{head}}
you must specify to full POS like : {{head|sa|adjective}}
as opposed to {{head|sa|adj}}
. Thanks for your contributions. :) User: PalkiaX50 talk to meh 13:05, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yep, I realized what I was doing. Thanks! 11achitturi (talk) 17:59, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
Looks like a lot of Sanskrit in etymologies. It would be great if you could go through these. Thanks! --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 16:42, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'll give it a shot.11achitturi (talk) 17:59, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks so much! --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 18:00, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
Please remember to use this feature, because it automatically categorises entries by etymology. Thanks! —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 06:08, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
Hi. I noticed that your keyboard is not correct for Urdu. For example, you spelled this word جوكھمي (with ك (k) and ي (y)). Correct would be جوکھمی (with ک (k) and ی (ī)). The ك (k) and ي (y) are readable by Urdus, but it is not the correct spelling. If you use Microsoft Windows, you should have the correct Urdu keyboard available in your control panel. —Stephen (Talk) 12:51, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
spokensanskrit.de
[edit]It should be avoided because it allows user-submitted content, and contains many made-up words and meanings (you can look up e.g. internet or America). There is a dozen or so other dictionaries to link to. --Ivan Štambuk (talk) 03:37, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
