Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Coptic issues
[edit]Please read WT:CFI carefully. I've sent a few of your definitions to RFV; perhaps they are all attestable but maybe they aren't. Your use of capitals and including definite articles before proper nouns also diverges from prevailing practice. Feel free to argue for either of these conventions (I would advise you to begin with definite articles, which seems to have a greater shot at passing), but please conform to the current practice for the time being. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 12:27, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
Coptic head templates
[edit]Please stop unilaterally imposing your own bizarre preferences in Coptic head templates. Whether proper nouns should be displayed with definite articles should be discussed before your put it in. Using capitals in proper nouns is an obscure practice that has no place here. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 21:01, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- +1, please respect convention and uniformity, and seek input from others before deviating from it; saves everyone time. That said @Ⲁⲡⲟⲗⲗⲟⲇⲱⲣⲟⲥ, thanks for your work on Coptic in general, it's a lovely language that deserves more attention on this site. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 13:14, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
Coptic pronunciation
[edit]Hey, I can't find where the Coptic prounciation is treated online. Can you explain me the pronunciation rules for the Coptic or can you indicate me a source? I need it for add it to the Coptic lemmas.--BandiniRaffaele2 (talk) 13:38, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
- My main source is the coptic alphabet page on wikipedia (you will find it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coptic_alphabet#Letters). I also use the book Coptic in 20 Lessons as a basis. Though proper Coptic pronunciation is still debated, especially for dialects that didn't get much attention, like Akhmimic, Fayyumic, and Oxyrhynchite. Ⲁⲡⲟⲗⲗⲟⲇⲱⲣⲟⲥ (talk) 13:44, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you. I've just made a new template for the Coptic pronunciation. I've based the IPA values on the Paola Buzi and Agostino Soldati's "La lingua copta" (The Coptic language), 2021.--BandiniRaffaele2 (talk) 19:36, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
List of Coptic names
[edit]Hi! I noticed that you have edited and created a lot of Coptic names, I'm creating a personal mod for a game, and that game has the Coptic culture. I wish to break the Coptic culture into its 6 dialects, so are you aware of any book or article that contains all attested names in Coptic? Choisîmes, mendissent (talk) 08:05, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hey, if still relevant - there's a Wikipedia article on Coptic names Absudar (talk) 23:48, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
