Add topic欲しい
[edit]@Haplology @Entry なるべく "欲しい" is transliterated as "hoshī" by this template, although at "欲しい" it shows "hoshii", as expected. Could you take a look at this, please? --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 10:28, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
Capitalisation and particle へ
[edit]Calling on @Eirikr, @Wyang or anyone.
At へ the beginning of the sentence is not capitalised and particle へ, which is separated by a space is transliterated as "he", not "e"
- 日本へようこそ!
- nihon e yōkoso!
- Welcome to Japan!
Expected: Nihon e yōkoso!
- 銀行へ行った。
- Ginkō e itta.
- [I] went to the bank.
Expected: Ginkō e itta. --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 12:44, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Also, at いう いいます should be "iimasu", not "īmasu":
- この動物は日本語で何と言いますか。
- Kono dōbutsu wa nihongo de nan to īmasu ka.
- What do you call this animal in Japanese?

- Re: capitalization -- use the ^ in the second template param just before the kana that should take init-caps in romaji. Have a look at the wikicode at 言う.
- Re: ii vs. ī -- use a period between the first kana and the following い in the second param to specify that the two i sounds belong to separate morphemes. Eg:
きい
becomeskī
, butき.い
becomeskii
. Have a look at the wikicode at 言う. - Re: へ, not sure what's happening, probably the module needs rejiggering. It currently handles は correctly from what I've seen, romanizing as ha or wa depending on context. I suspect it doesn't have the code required to handle へ similarly. I'm afraid that I don't have the time or code familiarity to tackle that for the foreseeable future. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │ Tala við mig 23:45, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Well, that's me showing my worth as a prognosticator -- not much. :) I wound up with some time this evening and had a go at fixing this. Turns out the module didn't handle either は or へ if either was surrounded by the triple-single-quote wikicode for
'''bolding'''
. The instances of{{ja-usex}}
on the は and へ pages now appear correctly. Do let me know if you see any entries that aren't working right. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │ Tala við mig 07:47, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

- @Eirikr Thank you for explaining (especially the dot, which I have overlooked or forgot the exact usage) and fixing handling of へ. I'm aware of ^ symbol, since I suggested it to Haplology. I was under impression that sentence final punctuation automatically capitalise first words, obviously not. --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 06:04, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, capitalization is a bit scattershot -- sometimes the romaji take init caps automatically, and sometimes not. I haven't walked through the code to try to figure out why. I'm reasonably sure that, in time, we can figure out what's going funny and correct for it (perhaps it's as simple as the bolding issue for へ). ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │ Tala við mig 06:58, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
Issue with handling 々
[edit]The presence of 々 seems to be sending the Lua module into an error:
- 私は時時テニスをします。
- Watashi wa tokidoki tenisu o shimasu.
- I sometimes play tennis.
- 私は時々テニスをします。
- Watashi wa tokidoki tenisu o shimasu.
- I sometimes play tennis.
—umbreon126 07:25, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- This seems to have fixed it. With an emphasis on "seems": this change should not have made any difference, and I suspect the issue may simply reappear somewhere else, where it will be much harder to pinpoint. It seems to be a bug in the PHP backend of the ustring library. Switching to the pure-Lua version seems to also alleviate the issue. — Keφr 18:39, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
Lua error in Module:ja at line 664: attempt to concatenate field '?' (a nil value)
[edit]I had met this issue for a several times and still don't know what's wrong with this.

- Roshia wa doitsu o semeta.
- Russia attacked Germany.

@Marlin Setia1 Keep katakana as katakana:
- ロシアはドイツを攻めた。
- Roshia wa doitsu o semeta.
- Russia attacked Germany.

Thanks. Marlin Setia1 (talk) 22:15, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- What about this? I've been trying to add it to the 個 entry:
- Lua error in Module:ja-ruby at line 628: Can not match "あの枝に桜ん坊が十個だけあります。" and "あの えだ に さくらんぼ が じゅっこ だけ あります。"
- BlueCaper (talk) 22:25, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- The spaces in the kana rendering need to be single-byte spaces. Have a look at the entry.
- Also, only bold the part that applies to the actual headword -- in this case, only the 個 part and its kana rendering こ.
- Incidentally, the template doesn't quite work right when the bold happens in the middle of gemination:
- あの枝に桜ん坊が十個だけあります。
- Ano eda ni sakuranbo ga jukko dake arimasu.
- There are only ten cherries on that branch.
- あの枝に桜ん坊が十個だけあります。
- I changed the wording in the usex on the 個 page to use 十二個 instead, to avoid the gemination bug. But if anyone could figure out how to fix the issue in the module, that would be even better. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 23:37, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
ヶ
[edit]How is "ヶ" handled? It is not romanized. (see が) —suzukaze (t・c) 04:29, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hmm, it should normally be romanised as "ga" (= が) but not in 一ヶ月 (いっかげつ, ikkagetsu). --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 23:55, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- 約一ヶ月
- yaku iggagetsu
- approximately one month
- 富士見ヶ丘
- Fujimigaoka
- Fuji View Hill

ヶげつ
→kagetsu
ヶ
→ga
[1][2] —suzukaze (t・c) 03:20, 29 December 2015 (UTC)- @suzukaze-c I don't understand your notation. Is everything OK with the transliteration of ヶ at the moment? --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 10:34, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
- It should be. Wyang added code so that "ヶ" would become "ga", but this was unsuitable for ヶ月 so I added code that ヶげつ specially becomes "kagetsu" and not "gagetsu" —suzukaze (t・c) 10:36, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
