The simplicity of the template is detrimental. What will happen if the webpage closes? People will not know what the reference is and where to find it in the real world. --Vahag (talk) 08:10, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

It is not a reference; it is an external link. If the web page closes, the link will cease to be useful as a link. --Dan Polansky (talk) 09:34, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
The question answered via this template is not, how do the authors of the page know the information present in the page. Rather, it is, where can the online readers quickly double check for themselves and where can the online readers find out more than the English Wiktionary can hope to offer in forseeable future, in some of the best online monolingual sources of the planet. --Dan Polansky (talk) 09:38, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
That said, I would be happy to provide a fuller identification here on the talk page. However, I cannot easily find it. What is obvious is the title of the work, and also, it seems to be published by Институт за български език, and it seems to be the work that Google books shows as having Кристалина Чолакова and ‎Симеон Бояджиев as editors or something of the sort, and shows volumes published in 2000 and 2002. If someone wants the figure out the fuller identification and post it here on the talk page, so much better. --Dan Polansky (talk) 10:11, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's this dictionary. I don't have it in print or as scanned pdf, so I do not care about creating a full reference template. --Vahag (talk) 10:14, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks for the link to W:BG:Речник на българския език (БАН). From the Wikipedia page, it seems they started publishing in 1977, and are not complete yet, the last volume being ПРЕЛЕТ — ПЯСЪЧНОЖЪЛТ, 2012. --Dan Polansky (talk) 10:19, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Language code in template name

[edit]

I created the template at Template:R:RBE. I oppose renames to R:bg:RBE, but will yield to consensus, or even to 60% majority. --Dan Polansky (talk) 16:16, 25 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Option for different display head and search input

[edit]

Would it be possible to make the input feeded to the search engine different from the head that is displayed in Wiktionary? For example, Bulgarian треска (treska) stands for three different homophonous meanings. They are all referenced under треска (http://ibl.bas.bg/rbe/lang/bg/треска/) but it's going to be confusing if we just repeat {{R:bg:RBE}} for all of them. Better would be to have the concrete reference entry specified under each etymology. This could be done by something like:

{{R:bg:RBE|head=H|search=S}}

which displays H in Wiktionary but feeds S as a search input to the site (or something of this sort).

PS The command [http://ibl.bas.bg/rbe/lang/bg/S/ H] does exactly what I ask for, but it's tedious. Безименен 12:20, 20 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Harmonizing this template and {{R:bg:RBE2}} with {{R:bg:BER}}

[edit]

@Benwing2 @Kiril kovachev I want to harmonize this template (and the closely related {{R:bg:RBE2}}) with {{R:bg:BER}}, so that instead of e.g.

  • гъдулка in Rečnik na bǎlgarskija ezik (Institut za bǎlgarski ezik)

we get:

  • гъдулка in Речник на българския език [Dictionary of the Bulgarian Language] (in Bulgarian), Sofia: Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

Compare this to {{R:bg:BER}}:

  • Georgiev V. I., editor (1971), “гъдулка”, in Български етимологичен речник [Bulgarian Etymological Dictionary] (in Bulgarian), volume 1, Sofia: Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, page 299

Any concerns?

Thanks,

@Chernorizets Looks legit to me. More descriptive this way, so I think it's a fine change ^^ Kiril kovachev (talkcontribs) 22:44, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Totally agreed. Your proposed format is similar to what {{quote-web}} (and presumably {{cite-web}}) generate. Benwing2 (talk) 23:07, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Benwing2 @Kiril kovachev I've updated both templates, switching them to using {{cite-web}}. I'm happy with the outcome, but let me know if you have any feedback. I'll create/update the documentation for those templates as well, sometime in the next few days. Chernorizets (talk) 03:03, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Looks good, thanks! Benwing2 (talk) 03:11, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
