@शब्दशोधक After you edit, clicking on the links shows No results for search term when the second parameter (the entry number) is provided. Searching by entry number rather than headword is especially important for entries that are in small text (such as 10782 rundhati under 10781 rundra). Kutchkutch (talk) 14:53, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

@शब्दशोधक: Your efforts are appreciated but the CDIAL database doesn't always work when you enter IAST characters in their search. For instance their treatment of अं (aṃ), ऋ (ṛ) is different. Sanskrit transliteration without diacritics

@Kutchkutch: Do you know any way of transliterating Sanskrit without diacritics? For a word like मणि, I want this template to link to [1] (which shows both accented and non-accented मणि) instead of [2], which hides the other मणि which has an accent. In special cases like vāmaná, we'll use parameter "1" as vamana can be both वमन(vomiting) and वामन (dwarf). 🔥शब्दशोधक🔥 03:29, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

@शब्दशोधक: To compare, I reinstated a version from 2019 last edited by AryamanA. Here is what I found: your edits were not causing errors per se but they were not giving the desired results either. Furthermore entering stuff in parameter 2 would earlier (before your edits) work perfectly but now it showed problems. For instance, entering {{R:CDIAL|taruṇa}} would not give anything and the person now had to type in {{R:CDIAL|táruṇa}}. Entering {{R:CDIAL|smr̥ta}} now works but it didn't after your edits. So I have for now let the 2019 version stand as there was no pressing need to change that; it was of course incapable of catching the headword and putting the translit into the search but the template was not doing so good of a job after the edits either. Therefore, also as a precaution against any problem which might have gone undetected by me, I've restored it to the last revision by AryamanA. -- 𝓑𝓱𝓪𝓰𝓪𝓭𝓪𝓽𝓽𝓪^{(𝓽𝓪𝓵𝓴)} 07:37, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Your efforts to improve the template are appreciated. However, if you're so inclined to improve the template, instead of experimenting with the template, which is used on thousands of entries, perhaps it would be better to experiment with a user template such as User:शब्दशोधक/R:CDIAL and show how it will work at User:शब्दशोधक/CDIAL. When you can clearly demonstrate that User:शब्दशोधक/R:CDIAL can replace {{R:CDIAL}} at User:शब्दशोधक/CDIAL, you could update {{R:CDIAL}} at that time. Kutchkutch (talk) 10:09, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

@Kutchkutch: Actually I wanted to make this template working without any extra parameters (although for now that seems impossible even after my so many attempts). Not linking??

@Bhagadatta, Kutchkutch Why isn't the entry word linking to the url? I also restored the template to the earlier revision but still it doesn't link. I think before a day or two it was completely fine (or I possibly didn't notice before that), so what's causing the problem? 🔥शब्दशोधक🔥 04:18, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
