This template should be used to generate the headword line for Sanskrit nouns. It supports the following parameters:
|1=
- Verb root. This should be original stem, even if it is an irregular form. For example, for the term इच्छा, the root should be इष् and not इच्छ्.
|g=
,|g2=
,|g3=
, ...- Gender(s). Possible values are
m
,f
,n
,m-p
,f-p
,n-p
,mf
(can be either masculine or feminine),fm
(can be either feminine or masculine, with feminine displayed first),mn
(can be either masculine or neuter),nm
(can be either neuter or masculine, with neuter displayed first),mf-p
(plural-only, can be either masculine or feminine),mfbysense
(can be either masculine or feminine depending on the gender of the underlying referent; places the noun in Category:Sanskrit masculine and feminine nouns by sense),mfbysense-p
. |f=
,|f2=
,|f3=
, ...- Feminine equivalent(s), for a noun referring to a male person or animal.
|m=
,|m2=
,|m3=
, ...- Masculine equivalent(s), for a noun referring to a female person or animal.
|n=
,|n2=
,|n3=
, ...- Neuter equivalent(s).
|head=
,|head2=
,|head3=
, ...- Explicitly specified headword(s), for introducing links in multiword expressions. Note that by default each word of a multiword lemma is linked, so you only need to use this when the default links don't suffice (e.g. the multiword expression consists of non-lemma forms, which need to be linked to their lemmas).
|tr=
,|tr2=
,|tr3=
, ...- Manual transliteration(s), in case the automatic transliteration is incorrect.
|sc=
- Script code. Rarely needs to be given, as the script is normally autodetected.
|sort=
- Sort key. Rarely needs to be given, as the sort key is autogenerated and is usually correct.
|id=
- Sense ID code, for linking to this headword. See
{{senseid}}
. Only needed for distinguishing multiple Sanskrit headwords on the same page.
NOTE: This headword template automatically adds the page to a script-specific category, in addition to the normal part of speech category. For example, {{sa-noun}}
when used with a term in Devanagari script automatically adds the page to both Category:Sanskrit nouns and Category:Sanskrit nouns in Devanagari script (regardless of whether |sc=
was explicitly given; if not given, the correct script is autodetected).
Examples
1. For the page अंसकूट (aṃsakūṭa, “shoulder”):
{{sa-noun|tr=áṃsakūṭa|g=m}}
produces
अंसकूट • (áṃsakūṭa) stem, m
2. For the page यम (yama, “twin”):
{{sa-noun|tr=yáma|g=mfbysense}}
produces
यम • (yáma) stem, m or f by sense
3. For the page क्रीडिका (krīḍikā, “player (of sports; feminine)”):
{{sa-noun|g=f|m=क्रीडक}}
produces
क्रीडिका • (krīḍikā) stem, f (masculine क्रीडक)
