Template:nod-pron

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Pronunciation/transliteration template for Northern Thai. Produces Paiboon transcription, Royal Thai General System of Transcription and IPA pronunciation. Relies on Module:User:RichardW57/nod-pron.

NOTE: This template and its documentation are currently under development.

NOT SUITABLE FOR GENERAL USE

The set of modules and templates to be adapted for Northern Thai is extensive, and some are ill-suited to testing within user space.

Usage

[edit]
parameters
No compulsory parameters. Arguments 1 – ∞ are for phonetic respellings in the Thai script. If no argument is present, it takes the pagename as argument 1.
This tool does not provide the function of syllable segmentation of a Northern Thai-language text as this is unlikely to be feasible under the Wiktionary infrastructure, thus all inputs must be phonetically respelt. All multisyllabic words must be segmented by "-" intersyllabically, regardless of how apparent the syllabic divisions may be superficially.
where to get phonetic respellings
Review this, though probably true mutatis mutandis.
A good website for looking up the phonetic respellings is Thai-language.com. Note that unorthographical phonetic features are often not marked in phonetic respellings from Thai-Thai dictionaries, so it is good practice to check against Sealang for pronunciation.
There is no need to specify transliteration/transcription in the headword templates if this template is present.
note
|note=redup indicates that the pronunciation exhibits unorthographical intersyllabic consonant reduplication, e.g. วิทยุ. Additional notes include short and unortho etc., the details of which can be found on Module:User:RichardW57/nod-pron.
forced middle tone
U+0304 Combining macron (̄) can be used to force a mid-tone on a syllable. Its placement follows the placement rules of the other tone marks.
qualifier
Qualifier of a pronunciation can be added by appending :qualifier after the respelling. See ฉัน and ข้าว for examples.
homophone
The module will attempt to grab homophone lists from Module:User:RichardW57/nod-hom/data based on phonemic spellings and display them in a new row if found. The list will be collapsed if it is too numerous.
audio
The module will also attempt to grab any audio file that reflects the pronunciation of the phonemic spelling and display them in a new row if found. See ญี่ปุ่น, สหรัฐอเมริกา, ไทย, รัก and งู for some examples.
